Best time for Umrah

Price, crowd density and temperature for all twelve months, and why the cheapest month and the quietest month are the same one.

For price, Safar and post-Eid Shawwal, roughly late August to October, when Haram-adjacent hotel rates fall 40-60% against Ramadan. For weather, December to February, when Makkah sits at 30-32°C rather than 44. For reward, Ramadan (expected dates for 2027), which is also the most expensive and most crowded.

The cheapest window

September is the cheapest month of the year, at an index of 82 against a 100 baseline, roughly ₹94,000 for a package that costs ₹1,75,000 in Ramadan. August and October are close behind. The constraint is heat: Makkah still runs 40-43°C.

The most comfortable window

December to February brings Makkah down to 30-32°C by day and 18-19°C at night, genuinely cold at Fajr, so pack a layer. Prices are mid-range and crowds moderate. For a first Umrah, or with elderly parents, this is usually the right trade.

What to avoid

June and July combine 44°C with school-holiday pricing, the worst of both. Ramadan is the most expensive and most crowded period of the year, and while the reward is why people go, it is demanding with small children or elderly parents.
