When do you say Umrah Mubarak?

The greeting marks a completed Umrah, so strictly it belongs to the return. Before departure, the tradition across India and Pakistan is a farewell dua, and the traveller asks you what to pray for on their behalf in the Haram. Neither usage is a rule of religion; both are custom, and nobody will correct you for saying Mubarak a week early.

Replying to Umrah Mubarak, and welcoming someone home

When someone wishes you Umrah Mubarak, thank them and turn the dua back on them: Jazakallahu khairan, Allah aapko bhi naseeb kare. If they had asked you to pray for them in the Haram, say that you did; it is the message they are really waiting for.
