Umrah Mubarak wishes

Fifty messages in English, Hindi and Urdu, the Arabic duas with their meanings, and what to say before someone leaves and when they come home.

Umrah Mubarak means blessed Umrah and is the greeting for someone who has completed the pilgrimage, usually said on their return. Before departure the customary wish is a dua for a safe journey and an accepted Umrah. Below are 50 wishes in English, Hindi and Urdu, the Arabic phrases with meanings, and the right way to reply.

When do you say Umrah Mubarak?

The greeting marks a completed Umrah, so strictly it belongs to the return. Before departure, the tradition across India and Pakistan is a farewell dua, and the traveller asks you what to pray for on their behalf in the Haram. Neither usage is a rule of religion; both are custom, and nobody will correct you for saying Mubarak a week early.

Replying to Umrah Mubarak, and welcoming someone home

When someone wishes you Umrah Mubarak, thank them and turn the dua back on them: Jazakallahu khairan, Allah aapko bhi naseeb kare. If they had asked you to pray for them in the Haram, say that you did; it is the message they are really waiting for.

Welcoming a pilgrim home is a family occasion across India. A shared meal, flowers and a simple banner at the door are customary; elaborate decorations and photo backdrops are a recent trend and entirely optional. Banner lines that work in one glance: Welcome home from the House of Allah, Umrah Mubarak, Ammi and Abbu, Alhamdulillah for a safe return. The returning pilgrim usually brings the gifts: Zamzam water, Ajwa dates from Madinah, a tasbih or a prayer mat, and is expected to share the Zamzam with everyone who visits.

If the wish has made you want to go yourself, Umrah packages from 23 Indian cities start at ₹78,000 for 10 nights, and the first-time guide explains the order to do things in.

Common questions

What does Umrah Mubarak mean?

Umrah Mubarak means blessed Umrah. It is the customary greeting for someone who has performed Umrah, wishing that the pilgrimage was blessed and accepted. Mubarak is Arabic for blessed and is used the same way in Eid Mubarak.

Do you say Umrah Mubarak before or after the trip?

Traditionally after: Umrah Mubarak congratulates someone on an Umrah performed. Before departure the usual wish is a dua for a safe journey and an accepted Umrah, such as Allah aapka safar aasaan kare, or the Arabic Fi amanillah. Many people say Umrah Mubarak before departure too, and it is not wrong, only less precise.

What is the reply to Umrah Mubarak?

Reply with thanks and a dua for the other person: Jazakallahu khairan, Allah aapko bhi naseeb kare, meaning may Allah grant you the same. If they asked you to pray for them in the Haram, tell them you did.

Is it Umrah Mubarak or Umrah Maqbool?

Both are used. Umrah Mubarak wishes a blessed Umrah and is the common greeting in India and Pakistan. Umrah maqbulah, often written Umrah Maqbool, is the Arabic phrase meaning accepted Umrah and is what you will hear in Makkah. Taqabbal Allahu minkum, may Allah accept it from you, is the fullest form.

What gift do you give someone returning from Umrah?

Returning pilgrims usually bring gifts rather than receive them: Zamzam water, Ajwa dates, a tasbih or a prayer mat. To welcome them home, a meal with family, a simple banner or flowers is customary in many Indian households. Keep it modest; the occasion is spiritual, not a party.
