The nine causes
1. Passport validity measured wrong. Six months from arrival, not from application or departure. Fix: renew, allowing 3-5 weeks.
2. Photo background not white. Grey, cream and off-white all fail, as does a visible shadow. Fix: reshoot to the Nusuk specification.
3. Face too small in the frame. It must occupy 70-80%. Fix: reshoot; do not crop an existing photo, which degrades resolution below the threshold.
4. Name mismatch. Bookings must match the passport character for character. Fix: have the airline or hotel reissue in the exact passport name.
5. Provisional hotel booking. Fix: obtain a confirmed booking, usually against a deposit.
6. Missing or late meningitis certificate. Fix: vaccinate at a government-authorised centre and wait the 10 days.
7. Return flight outside the 30-day window. Fix: rebook inside it.
8. Applying during the Hajj blackout. Fix: wait for issuance to resume.
9. A prior Saudi overstay. This is a genuine eligibility bar and triggers a re-entry ban. It cannot be worked around.
If you are rejected
The fee is lost. You may reapply, but fix the underlying cause first, a resubmission with the same photograph will be rejected again, and you will pay twice.
Read the Nusuk message log before doing anything. It usually names the failing document, which turns guesswork into a ten-minute fix.
Common questions
Why do Umrah visa applications get rejected?
Almost always a document formatting error rather than an eligibility problem. The three most common are a photograph failing the white-background or face-proportion requirement, a provisional rather than confirmed hotel booking, and a name mismatch between the passport and the bookings.
Can I reapply after an Umrah visa rejection?

Do I get my money back if my Umrah visa is rejected?
